Cognitive processing Therapy (CPT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence‑based treatment designed to help individuals recover from trauma by examining and shifting the beliefs that may have formed after difficult or overwhelming experiences. Trauma can shape how people see themselves, others, and the world, often leading to patterns of thinking that feel rigid, painful, or self‑blaming. CPT provides a clear, structured framework for identifying these patterns and understanding how they influence emotions, behaviours, and relationships.
A central part of CPT involves exploring themes related to safety, trust, control, esteem, and intimacy- life areas that are commonly affected by trauma. By gently challenging unhelpful beliefs within these themes, you can begin to develop more balanced, compassionate, and accurate ways of understanding what happened and how it continues to impact your life.
CPT is particularly well‑suited for individuals who appreciate a structured approach and are willing to engage in practice between sessions. Homework exercises are an important part of the model, helping you to apply skills in real‑world situations and deepen the work we do together in session.
I am a registered CPT provider and have completed additional supervision to obtain this credential, which allows me to deliver the model with confidence. I can support you in a way that is both effective and attuned to you unique needs. If you’d like, I can also help you integrate CPT with somatic or EMDR‑based approaches when a blended method feels more supportive.
Cognitive Processing Therapy can be offered in-person at our West Edmonton location or virtually for anyone residing in alberta!
